What is “Where Am I From”

“Where Am I From” gathers a group of artists working in different mediums, from different parts of the world, in one space for short time only.

Each artist explores the question through their own art practice and invite visitors to explore, engage and contemplate in unison. Influenced by time, people, action, each reaction differs, becoming the art. That moment can never be replicated but etched into the memories of those present.

“Where Am I From” takes that question and turns it inward, past the place you were born, toward everything that actually built you. A language you picked up later. A craft you learned. A friendship. A city you chose on purpose.

About the space

Herman Zhou Art Hub

A private art space but also a villa and evolving. The space allows for its own identity to take shape and mould to become.

On the surface, the venue is a villa. A private one, on Koh Samui’s northwest coast, with an infinity pool that catches the sunset over the water. It’s been quietly picking up new lives too: artist residencies, exhibitions, artists coming in from across the region and leaving something behind. Building stories yet to be told. “Where Am I From” is about what shapes identity beyond where you started, and a venue doing the same work for itself naturally is the right stage.

What to expect

Tactile · Layered · Momentary · Charged · Living · Human · Scented · Felt · Questioning · Unfiltered · Playful

Move through the space at your own pace, wandering back to whatever pulled you in, alone or with whoever you came with.

Seven or more artworks turn familiar spaces into something unexpected: installations built to be touched, thresholds you decide to cross, or not, and performers who move with you and find you when you least expect it. Nothing here is staged for you to watch from a distance. The only expectation is to let the unknown unfold, and maybe ask yourself something you weren't expecting to.
